Council for Expectional Children Content Standards

The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) has established standards in the field of special education. The standards consist of 10 basic categories: foundations, development and characteristics of learners, individual learning differences, instructional strategies, language, learning environments/ social interaction, instructional planning, assessment, professional and ethical practices and collaboration.  As a future special education teacher, I am guided by the CEC principles and practice standards in ways that will respect the needs of individuals with exceptionalities and their families. The standards are aimed to help individuals with exceptionalities achieve success in the educational setting.

Throughout my internship year, I have adhered to the CEC standards.  The proof of my practices are on the following pages. Each standard has its own page where I address the standard, knowledge of the standard and how I addressed this standard in my teaching this fall semester of 2012.
